Hi there!

I've just bought a LCD monitor and I want to change the resolution from 1024x768 to 1280x960. Well, and all I know is that I must edit the XF86Config-4 file.

Add 1280x960 to the lines currently saying

In Section "Screen", you have DefaultColorDepth 16. Look through the "Display" SubSection's until you find the one with Depth 16 and add the new resolution to the Modes line. X will try each resolution in the order it is listed so you need to ensure your new resolution is listed first. It's been a while since I did this but I think that's all you will need.

Does it start at all? Or there is just a black screen or flickering? Post the last 20 lines or so of /var/log/XFree86.0.log. I'd say put those other values back in to be able to change the resolution with Ctrl-Alt-Plus and Ctrl-Alt-Minus. If you just get a black screen, try lowering the resolution with Ctrl-Alt--

That is after it has set the resolution. At the point where you get errors I have a number of GetModeLine entries. Does it work in a lower resolution? Try to run
