xscreensaver - can't something be done?

There seems to be a gtk lock dialog patch floating around, but it is apparently not of very good quality; Frederic Crozat put it into the Mandrake package then removed it after a week with "gtk2 lock widget doesn't seem to be that good yet". You could always try picking it up yourself - the Gentoo devs are always happy to include branding and feature patches - but do consider that the author has requested in the source for the icon to remain in the dialog.

[EDIT] funny there's no xscreensaver at cvs.gnome.org.. i will keep looking though

Yeah, they decided to remove it from the cvs tree.

If it's the patch you're looking for, I found it here - the software at mirror.ac.uk is absolutely gorgeous, it lets you peek inside rpms and tar.gz files, in this case the xscreensaver SRPM from Mandrake 9.2.
