Essentially I'd just like to have my world file backed up (so if I have to restore I can just restore from a fresh gentoo install and emerge world once I've restored my original world file), and keep my configurations and home directories.
So in a nutshell can I just back up /var/ (distfiles excluded), /etc/, /home/ and be able to restore to a very similar distribution? |

God damn! I can't believe none of you people back up your system!
Seriously though, doesn't it make more sense to just back up configs and user-specific files then restore from a make world on a fresh install? Am I not sane in that way of thinking?
Help me? |

I don't... but I also have nothing I can't live without. I also don't have a reasonable medium to back up data to. I'm not swaping CDs to back up 20G of music. I have read some threads about backups, though I'm not certain if they covered 'minimal'. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |
