Ctrl + Alt + F[12345678] in Gnome 2.4

I cannot switch to the virtual terminail when I am using Gnome 2.4/Metacity.

Is this normal. If yes, how can I change it?

can you switch when you are using another windowmanager? just for testing, try "twm", it is already installed with xfree.

if not it is a xfree-problem. i had it once and had to add some lines to my XF86Config, unfortunately i don't remeber which ones... i think you should try these:
