garbled graphics on laptop

I just installed gentoo(first time on this laptop, as well as first time installing gentoo(so I am not really sure what the culprit is inexpierence or my laptop) and the graphics are all garbled and stuff (extremely grainy, though text and solid colors are normal or close to it) would like some advice on how to fix this
