I am looking at purchasing a new laptop to replace my current 800mhz Acer, I have a few ideas and am looking for anything that is close to what I want..

No Pentium based laptops, it must be a AMD processor, thanks

I am looking for something similar to:

Size is important, it needs to be 12x10x2 or smaller, not larger.
Here are my thoughts on 'my ideal laptop':
xp1600+ or faster
512-768M+ memory
good graphics card
built-in wireless
11x10x2 size [smaller is better]
under $1200
I have no clue where to start looking. I am looking at the Averatec 3150H for its size, the fact that its a xp1600 and no onboard wireless turns me off, the price is right at under $1000 but I really do think I can get a faster cpu + onboard wireless for close to the same price.
I am mainly looking for model numbers of laptops that fit this description, I am not picky about the brand, it can be cheap.. the Averatecs case is not high quality, its something that if dropped it would easily break where as a Toshiba is a bit heavier and wouldnt break as easy, this isnt an issue with me. My main goal is to find something small, light, fast and linux compatable, i only run Gentoo and running Windows on a laptop is not a option, I know this is gentoo forums but I have to make sure that is understood, just incase
If anyone knows of anything that matches these specs or somewhat close please reply here, I am also down with buying something used so if you yourself have something like this or know someone who does that would be helpfull, thanks a bunch!

Why? Pentium-M Laptops are really powerful and powersaving (at the same time  ). And Centrino devices are most of the time very lightweight and small. At the moment, there is no real competitor when its about x86-laptops. |
