Since I'm not a fan of Gnome (nor KDE) I don't have all those ugly bastard (see below) installed I'm looking for a gDesklet-clone or something. Is there any?

Code:

ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -pv gdesklets-core

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

I would have a look at gkrellm and some plugins:

Yepp, gkrellm certainly doesn't need a lot of dependencies... but how about fancy themes? Where can I get them? The default are, in my opinion, ugly as few...

SuperKaramba. It is dependant on KDE, but it only needs kdelibs which you will probably want to install anyway.

And actually, gDesklets is a clone of SuperKaramba...

Don't you need to run KDE to be able to run karamba? I always thought that you could use gdesklets on pretty much every wm, but that karamba requires kdesktop or something, so it only runs on KDE.

Nope, AFAIK it doesn't. It should work on everything.
(although I must admit that I haven't tested myself)

OK, that should be cool then, they are much faster than gdesklets, so I'll maybe try it too.

Ok, it does indeed work, but if you want transparency, you need to run kdesktop, which will ruin my menus in kahakai (won't be able to access it by rightclicking), so I'll leave it alone for now.

Does that install it properly? This is the answer I've been looking for. I didnt want to have to go download and compile everything manually. I too will be using fluxbox. Just got Gentoo installed from Stage1 :)

Gdesklets is fairly heavily tied to Gnome and GTK and Superkaramba is fairly heavily tied to KDE and QT.

If you don't want either then I would recommend gkrellm2, as people already have done. You can get some nice themes for it. Emerge gkrellm (use ~x86 for gkrellm2) and gkrellm-themes and then emerge the plugins you want.

The only thing about torsmo.. The last time I tried it, and the last I read, it still doesn't do double buffering. So, it flickers whenever it updates. This is AFAIK... so perhaps I'm wrong?

No, you're right. Hopefully that gets fixed soon because it is very annoying.

I have high hopes though. Aside from this issue it is exactly what I was looking for.

I can understand not wanting all that gnome stuff but SERIOUSLY gdesklets SUCK.

And so do Karamaba.. No one needs that ram sucking, cpu intensive stuff - KDE allready filles that purpose in the bottom of our black hearts.

Just use torsmo - nice eye candy (imho) with tons of info about my system.
