|
|
I just installed Gentoo on this older computer I have and I would like to use it as a ftp server. Just something I can log into remotely and transfer files to/from when I'm at work. I don't really need multiple users or anything, this is just for me. I'm also behind a linksys wireless router.
I'm really new to linux, though I had played with Red Hat and Mandrake and I thought I would give Gentoo a try. Would this be easier to setup on another distro or is Gentoo ok for what I want to do?
I should also add I don't know much about networking and have not had any luck setting up proftpd and pure-ftpd. I really need the ultimate noob guide to setting up a ftp server on Gentoo. Any help you guys could give me would be great. |

check out the example conf files in /etc/proftpd/ if you want to use this one.
check that both user and group used by ftp server are in /etc/passwd and /etc/group . if not create them, they dont need to have a proper shell, and they better not. /bin/false will be sweet.
check the proftpd website, it comes to be pretty handy by time , and make sure the server is running _________________ Feeds2Read.net

I've always found vsftpd to be fairly easy to configure and use. Although it can get as complicated as you want it to be but works well for just a personal FTP server or for many, many users.
If you want more info on it, the website is http://vsftpd.beasts.org. |
