Which is a better chipset?
Should I rather by Asus K8V or Gigabyte 8KNNXP?

k8t800 from what i've seen on toms hardware, but right now there about the same

nforce3 is quite mature and has been out for a long time.

I'd probably lean more towards kt800 though, because it is newer with more goodies.

also VIA tend to support opensource more than nvidia, who keep everything closed source.

in actual fact I'd prob wait for the kt800pro or kt880 - which will have pci express and lots of new goodies (of course that will make it harder to work with linux

)

in terms of performance, they are pretty much on par - with nforce3 taking the lead in a few memory intensive benchmarks etc..

and I'd go asus over gigabyte..
