Just finished reading the Gentoo Java FAQ and it looks like Gentoo makes it pretty easy to work with multiple JRE/JDK ports. I haven't really done much Java development beyond a few toy programs, so I was hoping people here might recommend one or more releases.
People say really good things about the Eclipse system, so that seems like a good choice. Then again, people say good things about Sun and IBM Java. I'm looking for something that would help me develop applications as well as applets (servlets?).
I welcome any suggestions and give thanks in advance.
