I am trying to setup my computer as an x-terminal.
I have one machine, the server, sitting in a closet without a mouse or keyboard. I want it to just sit there, and run as an xserver.
I've connected to it with ssh, but when I try to start the x server, I keep getting an error and it stalls. I think the problem may be related to the fact that the server has no keyboard, mouse, or monitor.
Here is the error:
(EE) xf86OpenSerial: No Device specified.
(EE) xf86OpenSerial: No Device specified. |

You don't run an xserver on the server. You run the xserver on the machine with the display. You only need xfree installed on the server for the libs. There is no point in trying to run an xserver (other than xvnc) on a machine with no monitor.
If you've already got X running on the terminal machine then all you do is login to the server through ssh and run the program you want to run. If you have x11 forwarding setup in your ssh config then the program will appear on your local desktop. That's all there is to it. |

Yeah, the completely perverted client/server definition of X striked back again...
