I'm in the process of rewriting Morphix's networkconf program to support Gentoo. However, Morphix uses a few different files than Gentoo for storing network information. I need to know where Gentoo keeps the following information:

1. Where information like IP address, netmask are
I think I found it, but I'm not sure
Am I correct that this it /etc/conf.d/net ?

2. Where Wireless network information is stored
I know there is a file called /etc/conf.d wlan.conf
It seems to be for SSID's and it uses files called wlancfg-SSID.
I need some explanation of how the wlancfg file interacts with iwconfig, etc.

3. What is the command for releasing/renewing/changing the IP address?
I know gentoo uses dhcpcd for some things, and has the /etc/init.d/net.iface scripts,
How do I say, change the IP address from DHCP to static (and assign the static) or vice-versa.

Thanks, hopefully with some luck there will soon be a graphical program to change your IP/Wireless settings for Gentoo :D

Gentoo currently has no base wireless config. Instead it currently relies on the configs for various packages. However, I'm currently building wireless support into /etc/conf.d/net and /etc/init.d/net.IFACE scripts

AFAIK there is none - you have to modify the config's and restart the interfaces.

Does Gentoo really need it? I mean, you have to have networking working from the get-go really unless you've installed from a Stage3+GRP
