I can watch live TV for about 5-15 minutes, then the picture freezes and I get this:

At this point, I can escape out of mythfrontend slowly as there's a long delay between screens. Mythbackend appears to still be running, but if I fire up mythfrontend again, I only get black screen for live TV, and I get this in my terminal:

I have a PVR-350 and use ivtv-0.1.9 to drive it. Anyone else seeing something like this. Just as well, I'd like to hear if anybody has mythtv working reliably in Gentoo as I've had no success at all since 0.12.

That sounds exaclty like my problem, except mine doesnt work at all. When trying to start the tv I get a blank screen and the same message in the console. I'm using the bttv kernel drivers on a wintv card. (not 250/350).
Using 2.6.2 kernel

I think that I had the same problem that you guys had. I was getting the "Unexpected response to MYTH_PROTO_VERSION" error.

Go into mytvsetup and then under the general setup menu, set your machine IP address and your master IP address to be the same thing (don't use 127.0.0.1 for each, use the real address). It may also work if you set them both to 127.0.0.1, but in my case I just put the real ip address in both fields.

Now it works perfectly.

I am having this exact problem. I try to start LiveTv and it is just a black screen that cuts back to the menu after a few seconds. This is the error on the cmd line
Code:
2004-12-08 23:57:58 ReadStringList timeout (quick).
2004-12-08 23:57:58 Unexpected response to MYTH_PROTO_VERSION:
2004-12-08 23:57:58 Changing from None to None

I have both ip addresses set to my dyndns.org name. I have a WinTV card with the bttv driver. I can watch tvtime no problem. Can anyone help me out? I am running kernel 2.6.9.

Well I fixed it, I had to recompile mythtv with the nvidia USE flag.

I'm having the same problems on this thread. I try to turn on Live tv in myth ....blanks screen...then goes back to menu. I look at the output on the console...has the MYTH_PROTO_VERSION messages.

I've gone into mythsetup...set the 2 ip addresses both to 120.0.0.1 and to the true ip address of the box....no good.

I saw here about recompiling using nvidia in the USE flag. I looked in the gentoo USE document...and i don't see this as a USE flag...is it a new or undocumented one?

I've checked...my PVR 250 card is working with mplayer....

Any ideas?

I'm using mythtv 0.15 with a 2.6 kernel....
