Hi,

According to cat /proc/cpuinfo, my Celeron (yep, that's a clue) 2.6GHz has only 8KB of cache on it!

(I wondered why KDE3.2 was taking *days* to compile with 700+MB RAM!!!)

Can anyone confirm whether this should be correct, or whether I have been dupped by PCWorld!!!!

I am only assuming that having that piddly little amount of cache is going to kill my laptop for CPU intensive things like software development etc....

Many thanks,

Colin

I think it has 8KB L1 and 128K L2.

Oh, OK.

Thanks for your reply. Is there any way I can check this within Linux?

You can have a look at the output of dmesg for example with my pII it says
Code:
CPU: L1 I cache: 16K, L1 D cache: 16K
CPU: L2 cache: 512K
