I try also with old gaim (0.74, ...) with the some results and I'm sure that before Christmas everything it was OK and I use gaim and MSN without problems.
excuse me for my bad english... _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't.

have you set the ssl use flag ?
if not, your client can't connect ton msn since the new version of the protocol. |

hi, thanks for the answer. Yes, I try with ssl enable (it's in my default USE) and also with Code: | USE="-ssl" emerge gaim | with the some results _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |

fedeliallalinea, USE="-ssl" will actually disable ssl when emerging gaim! Try
and it will tell you what USE flags are set before the 'merge.

[btw, I also can't connect to MSN 100% of the time - seems a bit sketchy at the moment] |

Following theo_'s suggestions I solved the problems this way:
Code: | # emerge openssl
# emerge mozilla // or mozilla-firebird or mozilla-firefox
# emerge gaim
# emerge gaim-encryption |
The solution, as stated by theo_, may be the following:
As stated at url http://www.hypothetic.org/docs/msn/reference/error_list.php, msn error 911 is related to failed authentication to MSN network w/ or w/o SSL.
gaim relies upon gaim-encrypt.so to authenticate via SSL onto MSN Network.
gaim-encrypt.so, which is a dependancy of gaim ebuild, is dinamically linked to mozilla's libssl.so
Code: | armageddon root # ldd /usr/lib/gaim/encrypt.so | grep ssl
libssl3.so => /usr/lib/mozilla/libssl3.so (0x400bf000) |
After an emerge -u mozilla, gaim-encrypt.so may result broken so re-emerging openssl, mozilla* and then gaim should solve the problem. _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |

|
|
Hi,
I experience the same problem with gaim .75 r8: it does not connect to msn network. From the previous posts I understood that the problem is with libssl3.so, and that gaim should use the one located in /usr/lib/mozilla instead of the one in /usr/lib
the output of ldd is:
Code: | ldd /usr/lib/gaim/encrypt.so
libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x40022000)
libplc4.so => /usr/lib/libplc4.so (0x40026000)
libplds4.so => /usr/lib/libplds4.so (0x4002b000)
libnspr4.so => /usr/lib/libnspr4.so (0x4002f000)
libssl3.so => /usr/lib/libssl3.so (0x4006d000)
libsmime3.so => /usr/lib/libsmime3.so (0x4008f000)
libnss3.so => /usr/lib/libnss3.so (0x400b3000)
libsoftokn3.so => /usr/lib/libsoftokn3.so (0x4011e000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x4018e000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x80000000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x402b5000)
|
I did the sequence of emerges (first openssl, then mozilla, and finally gaim and then gaim-encryption) but to no avail. So I copied the libssl3.so from /usr/lib/mozilla to /usr/lib, run ldconfig and then gaim... but the same result.
I am lost. Can someone help me? |

Try to unmerge nspr and nss. These are only needed now for non mozilla installs (firefox/firebird). Then reemerge mozilla and then gaim (with mozilla in USE=). Should hopefully then find the mozilla libs. |

I unmerged both nspr and nss, and indeed it now links with mozilla libs. However, I get the same output from gaim, mainly "cannot read from server" (the 911 reply from hotmail). I switched to amsn and kopete (although I don't use KDE).. |
