|
|
Hi,
Just like every KDE fan, I emerged 3.2 just as it was out. I then started investigating it. I found an interesting feature that, as far as I know, wasn't included in 3.1. When you go to Configure Desktop > Background, there is a button called Advanced Options. There you can find a listbox that says background programs. Apparently kde runs the programs you put in that list and shows the output as a wallpaper! Isn't that nice? You can even put web pages there! When I think about what can be done this way, perhaps we can create a simple php page that changes a file every once in a while. Then KDE will download the new wallpaper and put it on the background. You can then tell it to update every couple of minutes, and you have an unlimited wallpaper archive! |

Not to flame bait, but that is scary functionality. Little too much automation for my desktop. |

still a nice feature isn't it? at least you have the choice of using it. more is better than less (of course, when it doesn't slow down your box, in which case KDE is not a solution anyway) |

I've been using XPlanet for my KDE 3.2 background which is updated from that same dialog box. As soon as you emerge xplanet or xearth, they show up automatically configured for KDE. Sweet. |

does this mean you can have animations run in the background like simpler desktops allow _________________ Giay tay nam | Giay nam cao cap | Giay luoi |

You could already do this with 3.1. AFAIK animation isn't supported, flash or otherwise. It's kind of a cool feature, but its hard to find a good web site for a background. I used to use planetquake.com for a while, since it matched my brownish theme. =) |

u could probally make a flash player as the backdrop, hell Mekoryuk could probally even use quake (ie the game) as his backdrop |

I think it's been in since KDE 2. I used to have it use xplanet, together with pictures from weather satallites to give a semi-realtime picture of the Earth, updated every few minutes.
Caused havoc when playing FPS games though, since the sudden CPU hit every few minutes was very noticeable. |
