PostPosted: Thu Feb 05, 2004 6:33 am    Post subject: XFree Configuration Trouble Reply with quote

I'm having some trouble configuring XFree to work correctly with my dual-monitor setup. I just finished reinstalling gentoo and emerged XFree. When I loaded my configuration file that I saved from my previous install (that works) I got a bunch of different errors. I will post this error list at the bottom of the message. I used /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config to generate a sample configuration file and got it to work perfectly using many of the same options as my ideal, unworking one except the stuff for dual monitors. Here's what I've done to get it work:

1) It tried the x86 and ~x86 version of nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx with the same results
2) In my working configuration, nvidia-glx works with opengl-update nvidia set (6606.400 FPS with glxgears) so I don't think that's the problem
3) Both the "nv" and the "nvidia" driver function under my working configuration

I have an nForce chipset based board with an AMD Athlong XP 2800+ on 512MB RAM. The videocard is one nVidia geForce FX 5900 and I am using it with two flatpanel displays, one with the VGA out and the other with the digital. My system is running gentoo-dev-sources in the x86 tree which is currently 2.6.1. Since XFree will start I think it's something in my configuration. I suspect it makes a call and produces those errors, but not sure what. I am pretty sure everything is the same as before. I had trouble configuring it correctly but never got errors like that.

Thanks,
Justin

Here's the error log of what goes wrong.

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11.  Server aborting

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send
the full server output, not just the last messages.
This can be found in the log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log".
Please report problems to xfree86@xfree86.org.

Here's the broken config file that produces the above errorlog:

I fixed the problem. All the extra screen sections for my second monitor seem to be superflouse since when I commented the line in the Screen Layout section for my second monitor it worked. Xinerama isn't working right yet but I'll see if I can fix that.

I have the same problem as you have. Got two screens and monitors in my server layout to be used to twinview (need both to set the "main" monitor of the two)... i guess ill have to work with my wrong monitor as my "main" monitor until this bugg is fixed.

I'm not sure about alot of it but one thing I noticed is that this line:

Option "NVAGP" "1"

should be:

Option NvAgp" "1"

This was a problem I was having until I corrected it and now no more problems.
