|
|
Hi,
After playing Savage for about an hour my Radeon 9000 card will develop some sort of static on the screen. This will quite quickly get worse until picture is unusable. Normally after leaving it for an hour or so this fixes itself... The static only happens in the game (also in UT2003 - probably related to the settings the games use for 3D?) and returning to xfree makes the display perfectly clear.
I'm using the ATI drivers version 3.7.0 as I can't make the game work with the generic kernel/xfree combination. Also, I'm using kernel 2.6.2, but have had the problem using kernel 2.4.x's too.
Does anyone have a solution, or at least have seen the problem?

sounds like your Radeon's RAM is overheating. You could try taking the side of your case off and seeing it the corruption stops. If it does, its probably temperature related. The reason you only see it in games is because thats the only time the graphics card is really working hard.
Have you overclocked the card?
Is there decent airflow in your PC case?
Does the 9000 have a fan on it, or just a heatsink? If theres no fan, you could add one yourself. _________________ Keyboard error or no keyboard present. Press F1 to continue. |

I'm not doing any overclocking at all, so would've expected the cards fan to keep up - it came with it...
Is there a prodect anyone would recommend to add extra cooling to a radon 9000? _________________ Tom Wesley |

I had the exact same problem with my Radeon 9000 pro. I recommend buying one of those fans that is attached to an exhaust enclouse- the ones that attach to an empty slot (instead of a PCI card) inside the case. Run ya $8-9 |

I have the same problem. I made screenshots of it in my windows days, but they died with my harddrive....
After a while, some textures get corrupted, with (mostly) pink, green and yellow static. Problems have been seen in these games:
Enemy Territory (Windows AND Linux)
Freelancer (Windows)
Tribes2 (Windows)
Quake3: Urban Terror (Windows AND Linux)
C&C Generals (Windows)
The card's memory is not hot to the touch. My side intake fan is blowing on the card too. It's a Club3D Radeon 9100 64M. |
