Like I said, I've screwed up my KDE 3.2 menus and I want to restore the defaults. Anybody got any ideas as to how I go about it?
thanks

I once did the same thing (screw up kde's application menu) and I recovered it by booting a Knoppix CD and grabbing a copy of the /usr/kde/<insert version here>/share/applnk directory.
It wasn't perfect, but it worked. |

In KDE 3.1.x there was a "show hidden items" option that showed all the default ones that you had deleted. So if you by chance haven't upgraded to 3.2 (doesn't seem likely for a Gentoo user) you can do that.
I don't understand why they got rid of that option. _________________ What is the best [insert-type-of-program-here]? |

Its KDE 3.2. Its my personal menus, not the 'system' menus, so I assumed the they would be under ~/.kde/share/applnk, but they're not. I can't find anything anywhere that corresponds to the items I see on my K menu. Its really annoying me. Somebody must know where and how these things are stored... |

The Kmenu is in ~/.config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu _________________ Excelsior! |

As far as I can make out, the file ~/.config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu records the changes you make to the standard menu. So, delete that file completely and you get the system standard menus back. Would have saved me some hair pulling, that. |
