Hello all.
I'm trying to get Abaqus (a scioentific application used for structural calculations) run on a gentoo box (the little bastard wants a suse o radhat and I had to fake it).
I managed to install the program which requires mesaGL and glx.
When I try to run, although I get this:

Code:

FXFont::create: unable to create font.
ipc_CONNECTION_BROKEN
Disconnecting from ABAQUS License Manager.
ABAQUS Error: ABAQUS/CAE Kernel exited with an error.

Has anyone seen something like this before?

thanks

Oh, btw, I see this abaqus is using a licensing server. Usually this cames with a hardware key that you plug into your parallel port. If you don't have this, you can't get any licence and you can't run your programs. This is a security feature and I know it's a strong one... But maybe you don't need it.
Did you saw this program working? I looked on the ABAQUS site http://abaqus.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/abaqus.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1269&p_created=1057866853 and look what's telling about licensing:
Quote:
To obtain a license to run ABAQUS Version 6.2-7 and later, you must provide the host (computer) ID information for the computer that will be used for the network license server.

Have you done so?

I have no license issues as the university I work for purchased a campus-wide license. The program connects to a license server and gets its token. Anyway this problem occurs only when graphical tools are launched. Standard text-only analysis work just fine.

Ok. I see. So, it's not a licensing problem... Hmmm....
Next, I see you have a problem creating fonts. I don't know how to fix that, but I can give you some hints (I hope!).
You should look for the configuration file for ABAQUS. There should be some info about the fonts used.
Next, take a look to the fonts used by your X install. I can't help you here, just take a look here in the forum for X, fonts, crash. The X server is pretty messy when it comes to fonts. At least, it used to be. Have you tried to upgrade XFree86 or Mesa? Maybe the fonts you are trying to use are not installed... I had once a weird problem (in Windows) because I was using fonts not installed. But your case could be different.
Once again, I don't know how to help you, but this is where I would start if I were you!
[EDIT] Since you are having problems with FoxGUI, you might consider finding a forum like https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/foxgui-users. I hope this helps!

I'm attempting to do the exact same thing. I can run solves from the command line no problem, but whenever I try to launch CAE I get exactly the same error you describe.

Were you finally able to fix this problem? If so, please tell me how, and if not, I'll keep plugging away and keep you posted!

I am getting exactly the same error message. Did anybody got it work?
Just a vague idea, do we need an xfs server running, which i think redhat does?

Thanks
