Hi all,

I attempted to update to kde-3.1.4 the other day, but ran into problems with kdelibs-3.1.4. On build it was complaining about not being able to locate libcom_err.so in /lib. I located the library in /usr/lib and copied it to the /lib directory. Now it complains about too many files being open. I tried raising the number of files by using the following command (I took this from a forum I Googled.):

Code:
sysctl -w fs.file-max=32767

This did not help, and now I'm stuck.

So... I present the user community with my problem:

Code:

/bin/sh ../../../libtool --silent --mode=link --tag=CXX g++  -Wnon-virtual-dtor -Wno-long-long -Wundef -Wall -pedantic -W -Wpointer-arith -Wwrite-strings -ansi -D_XOPEN_SOURCE=500 -D_BSD_SOURCE -Wcast-align -Wconversion -DNDEBUG -DNO_DEBUG -O2 -march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -fno-exceptions -fno-check-new  -DQT_NO_TRANSLATION -DQT_CLEAN_NAMESPACE -DQT_NO_ASCII_CAST -DQT_NO_COMPAT    -o kabc_ldap.la.closure kabc_ldap_la_closure.lo -L/usr/X11R6/lib -L/usr/qt/3/lib -L/usr/kde/3.1/lib  -module -avoid-version -module -no-undefined -R /usr/kde/3.1/lib -R /usr/qt/3/lib -R /usr/X11R6/lib  -lldap -llber -lresolv resourceldap.lo resourceldapconfig.lo ../../libkabc.la ../../../kdeui/libkdeui.la

I haven't had much luck finding threads on this topic... then again I may be blind. Nevertheless I hope it is not a duplicate, and I appreciate any help the community could offer.

Thanks,

A shot in the dark, what version of gcc are you using?

I had no trouble installing kde-3.1.4 on my laptop. Something is definately different though.

My gcc version is 3.2.3-r1. This was just updated though, and may be my problem. I'm trying to get all of the rest of my packages up to date to possibly fix the problems with kde-libs. I will reply on the results after a long night of compiling.

Does anyone know what package libcom_err.so is associated with?

Woohoo! A question I can answer! :)
Code:
bash-2.05b$ etcat -b /lib/libcom_err.so
sys-fs/e2fsprogs-1.33

Sweet... thanks!

I'm still having the above problems... so I'm hoping replacing libcomerr.so will help.

Identical problems, many different packages.

So, let me get this straight... I still don't think I understand this... so in order to get these packages to work (cyrus-ldap, kde, and a few others I did a USE="-kerberos" on (didn't work on cyrus-ldap)), we need to install e2fsprogs... even if we don't use e2fs at all? What's going on here? Seriously, I must be misunderstanding something, can someone enlighten me?
