Message or Mail system for users

So what I have is a lil box with gentoo install and its all command line that I SSH into.. I have a few friends with A/C's on my box...

I want a way I can leave messages for them or all of them... so when they login it will say you have x new messages...

One of my friends said some thing about a mail program and a mail spooler...

I was hoping that some one can help me set this up or point me to a place that will guide me...

If all you want to do is display a message on login, then maybe "man motd" or "man issue" is what you want.

If you really want to do local email, then start by setting up an mta, like postfix. You might find this helpful: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/desktop.xml#doc_chap6.
