Hi,
I'm trying to do a fresh installof gentoo and I keep getting kernel panics at boot. I've tried the stock 2.6.1 kernels, and the gentoo-sources.
I'm doing a manual configure but i've also tried genkerlen with --menuconfig.
I can'tsupply much mroe info other than a panic and straigh after loading the second head at fb1 because my resolution is @800x600 and the dumptgoes off the screen..
Any ideas on how to capture the panic info? I guess I need to be able to boot to see anything captured anyways..
Or, can I switch matroxfb off somehow??
I'm really desperate for help. I've recompiled this kerel about 10 times already..
The worst part is: I recompile with _only_ vesafb support, no matroxfb in the kernel AT ALL. Then reboot and it works... Then, i'll try somehting with the matroxfb, new kernel, save with a new name and everything.
But next boot the *safe* kernel now laods matroxfb stuff eventhough I compile everthying in and I know the matrox is not in it..
Am I going insane??

Well, I worked it out. Don't know if its documented anywhere but you can use video=matroxfb:off to make sure matroxfb doesn't get loaded.
The other option which also worked is to compile the second head stuff as modules.. |
