After an upgrade to KDE 3.2, no panels and start menu are being shown. This makes it kind of unusable. I browsed through the postings, but there was no similar problem mentionned before.

Right mouse click brings up a menu, so I can at least start applications using 'Run command...'. Trying to start kicker manually brings the following error message:
Code:

$ kicker
X Error: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation) 2
  Major opcode: 102
  Minor opcode: 0
  Resourc id: 0x0
ERROR: Communication problem with kicker, it probably crashed.

All worked just fine in KDE 3.1.5. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

No solution, sorry.

Could you try it with a different user? root?

I got some problems with my kde 3.2 today, too. The desktop was unusable, Konsole didn't work correctly anymore and konqueror didn't work. I tried with root and all was fine. Then I created another user and it also works. Still didn't find the solution. Problem is not in /home/USENAME/.kde3.2, is there another place KDE saves user configuration?

Thanks a lot, this worked for me. Panels are showing being root, I should have tried this before posting. So it is just a matter of getting new accounts up :D

Okay, so this error could have the same background as mine.
I too am using another user currently, and copied a lot of data over. But I would like to solve this problem anyway, as it is a lot of work to setup another user as your default one. What if this happens again?
