I've been compiling OpenOffice.org (the binary version is way too slow on launch) for about a day and a half now. Anyway, I was wondering... can it use TTF fonts that i've registered with X with fc-cache? Because AbiWord has problems with fonts it didn't install... >_<

And on a side note, can I make GPM start at boot time?

1) Start `/usr/bin/oopadmin` select "Fonts" and add the font dirs.
2) Didn't `rc-update add gpm default` work?

Regards,
Chris

Will recompiling OpenOffice really make it launch quicker than the binary version? If so, for what reason?

I find OpenOffice 1.1rc3 (binary release) to launch fairly quickly, but could I see an improvement here as well if I'd recompile it myself?

Remenic... Well, I'd believe it would launch faster. The binary version is probably optimized for an i386 for compatibility. BUt remember, compiling it yourself makes it optimized for your machine. ^_^
