I installed gentoo over an old gentoo install. I wiped /, but didn't touch /boot, except to add a new kernel after i finished booting, after i finished installing i installed grub, ran root (hd0,0) and setup (hd0). menu.lst is syntactically correct. However, when i rebooted all i get is a flashing cursor. No grub menu, no error, nada. hda1 is bootable. what's wrong? I can boot fine with knoppix. _________________ Aim:gsfgf0 |

menu.lst is the old configuration file...
Do this:
# ln -sf /boot/grub/menu.lst /boot/grub/grub.conf |

Try re-running grub again... (root + setup).
As a workaround, use lilo, at least you'll have it bootable, then we can see what's happening to grub.
Also have a look at this long sticky topic in the installation forum: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=122656 |
