I'd like XFree to listen for connections via TCP when run via a display manager. For some reason, I haven't come across the proper documentation. If anyone happens to know where I can read up on where to turn this on/off, I would apreciate a point in the right direction.

To get into some detial, I get the following message at the top of my logs:
Code:
_XSERVTransSocketOpen: socket() failed for tcp
_XSERVTransSocketOpenCOTSServer: Unable to open socket for tcp
_XSERVTransOpen: transport open failed for tcp/washu:0
_XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: failed to open listener for tcp

TCP used to work, but its been so long since I tried it I have no idea what could have been changed to change this behavior.

I think this occurs when you use XFree with ipv6.
First, try to emerge it with -ipv6.
Second, edit your gdm.conf/xdm.conf/kdm.conf, look for lines where it starts /usr/X11R6/bin/X. There is an option you can append at the end of these lines : "-nolisten tcp" to disable tcp listening. So, maybe there is an option for "-listen tcp", too.
