I'm running the 2.6.3 dev-sources, and I'm trying to get my ScanJet 4100C working. I used the kernel module up to the 2.6.1 sources, which worked great. However, after searching up on libusb and hpoj, I've not found anything saying that a 4100C will work with both.
ANy ideas or general directions? _________________ It's fun to take a trip

I'm trying with little success to do the same thing: ScanJet 4100C with libusb. Emerging the ~x86 version of sane-backends with USE="usb" got sane-find-scanner to show the scanner, but I haven't been able to scan anything yet. Also, the SANE backend you want is "hp", not "hpoj". |

I figured that was true about hpoj, but I figured I'd try it.
And I have the ~x86 version, but I'll re-emerge it with USE="usb". Maybe that's all I'll need. _________________ It's fun to take a trip

Update on this:
After emerging:
sane-backends
xsane
libusb
sane-frontends
with the "libusb" and "usb" use flags, my scanner kind of sort of maybe works.
I can open up Gimp 2.0 as root, and it sees the scanner. I can select it, and everything goes well, right up to the "Acquire Preview" part. It fails out 2 times, and on the 3rd time (third time's a charm, eh?), it scans properly.
I can't do this as a normal user, only root. And either way, xsane doesn't work unless invoked via gimp 2.0.
Help? Suggestions?? Hints? _________________ It's fun to take a trip

same here...
using sane, 2.6.8 kernel and libusb is the mess.
sane-find-scannr finds my hp 4100c scanner without problems.
putting the output into the hp.conf... nothing works
scanimage -L always reports it can't find the scanner. using root ot finds the scanner from time to time. but most times it just crashes.
why did they take out SCANNER_USB from the kernel tree? it worked like a charm!
anbody got success with libusb and sane for any scanner? i guess it's libusb playing bad in this theater. _________________ DragonDreams: Leader and Head Programmer |
