iproute+tc issues

I managed to hack the HTB3 patch into the gentoo-sources kernel source, and have put together an init script version of the "Wonder Shaper" from lartc.org for use with my cable modem connection. Things are very much improved while uploading now, but I have had no luck at all getting ingress policing to work, either with the gentoo iproute ebuild or with any version of iproute2 that I've tried. tc gives me "RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument". Has anybody had better luck with the ingress qdisc? Also, if anybody is interested in the patch and/or the init script, I could make those available. The init script needs a little work, as it currently has hard-coded values for my connection... I can see about tweaking it to work with conf.d tho
