|
|
I have been a happy gentoo user for some amount of time. But now for some reason GRUB stopped working; I'll prolly post about that later. Anyway, it's unimportant. I unmerged GRUB and emerged LiLo, and now I'm trying to get LILO to work, following the Gentoo install guide instructions. I wrote out my /etc/lilo.conf in the right way, I'm pretty sure. But it gives me an error:
Code: |
Fatal: First sector of /dev/hda1 doesn't have a valid boot signature
|
I ran fdisk to be sure, and /dev/hda1 is set up as a bootable (the only bootable) partition on my drive. I did notice that unlike GRUB, LiLo doesn't seem to have a step to set it up on the MBR. Is this something I have to do? Or is it another problem entirely?
Thanks in advance for all help.

You have to type /sbin/lilo to get lilo to install in the MBR. _________________ Lou_The_Blue_Guru

Fixed it. I went into fdisk, removed the bootable tag from /dev/hda1, then saved the settings, then went back in and added it back in as the bootable partition. Then I ran /sbin/lilo and it worked fine.
Thanks
