Good afternoon,

After a couple of months using Gentoo, I have noticed that the system and kernel logs are not automatically cleaned up (They are getting big). What is the easiest way to automate their cleanup? Is there a standerd practice (cron job with a bash script)?

I googled, but all I got was noise. I am certain that this is a simple one that I am missing.

Thank you for your time,
Frank Russo

Two options come to mind.

1) Use metalog, which takes care of this problem itself.
-or-
2) emerge logrotate.

I just emerged-C sysklogd, installed metalog and did a

Code:
rc-update add metalog default

To which I got back

Code:

 * metalog added to runlevel default
 * Caching service dependencies...
 *  Service 'metalog' already provide 'logger'!;
 *  Not adding service 'sysklogd'...                                      [ ok ] * rc-update complete.

I hope that I am not missing something.
