I've got to the stage where this is driving me insane. I've searched a number of times on teh forums and not been able to find a decent solution. My problem is this:

Randomly (almost definatly if i'm in windows and reboot, but other than that it's kinda random, like one day it will happen, the next it will not) when in Gnome, I get multiple key presses from a single key press.
Here is an example of my typing when I have this problem:

exxxxxxaampppppppppppppppllleeeee

I have tried lowering the key repeat etc. from the keyboard preferences, but still to no avail. The only way I can stop it from happening, is to turn off key repeat all together in keyboard preferences, but this isn't an option for me as I want key repeats to work and i'd like to know why it does it sometimes and not others. I'd like to fix it so it doesn't happen again.

It also seems to only be in Gnome. If I try a virtual console (which i'm currently typing this on, as typing it whilst in Gnome would have taken me about 3 months), it works fine. During login (GDM), it works fine, I have no repeats when entering my username and password. When in windows, the keyboard works fine every time. Therefore I can only put this down to being a problem with Gnome. Unless of course it's just a general problem with X... which I can test.... Nope, if I select a 'failsafe x-term' then I suffer none of these problems, yet once I logout and go back into Gnome, the problem starts back up again.

I have a Cordless Logitech iTouch keyboard if that's of any help.

As I said, this is driving me totally insane now, as it can often take 2-3 reboots before it will actually work properly. Obviously rebooting isn't the Linux way, but it's the only thing i've been able to find so far that might actually help me to use my linux install

Hope someone can help

Ashak

I got the same problem, but not in gnome! I am using xfce4 on a toshiba laptop. I think I have the problem since I installed the newest version of xfree (-r4 I think). I have to test, if I have the same problem in kde-3.2.

Here is it more like this:
freshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmeat.net

So only one key ....

Best regards,
Magnus

I found a post of the forum about Toshiba laptops in relation to this, I can't for the life of me find it again though. Your problem was totally related to the Toshiba Keyboard controller or something and as far as I am aware, is a different problem to mine.
