did your gentoo-files install in /boot of your root-partition or in your boot-partition? it's makes a difference if /boot is mounted or not while emerging grub. make sure all your grub-files are in that partition you specify via the "root"-command in grub (just before "setup"). _________________ please, feel free to correct my english. - por favor, corrige mi español. |

Don't make the mistake I did, which took me 15 minutes of blank staring to figure out
When your in grub the install instructions indicate the following:
grub> root (hd0,0) (Specify where your /boot partition resides)
grub> setup (hd0) (Install GRUB in the MBR)
grub> quit (Exit the GRUB shell)
I entered "grub> setup (hd0,0)" for the second line and got a similar message and had the same feeling once I entered the command correctly it went fine
Hope this helps |

I'm having the same issue, /boot was unmounted because the emerge would die if it was mounted.. |
