Hi,
I don't have a problem, but I'm just curious:
Who is using what IMAP server and (IMPORTANT) for what reason!
Why is cyrus/courier better? |

I use cyrus. Why? Because I don't want to create system users for every email account I create. I also love being able to use SIEVE for email filtering on the IMAP server. This is particularly useful combined with spamassassin integrated with MailScanner. I also like cyrus' black box approach to email and using internal databases to index e-mails. Throw in ACLs for easy shared folders, mailbox quotas, and perl modules and you can administrate many mailboxes with ease.
I have heard great things about courier and I bet it can do the same. Just use what you are comfortable with. Cyrus has bit of a learning curve but is very powerful and configurable once you learn to use it. There is reason Kolab and OS X server decided to use it. |

If you have time and need for Cyrus, go for it. For normal use any server software out there is enough, but if you really need enterprise-class software which can handle insane amounts of simultaneous users, go for Cyrus. Otherwise it's simply overkill for you. _________________ Yes, I'm the man. Now it's your turn to decide if I meant "Yes, I'm the male." or "Yes, I am the Unix Manual Page.". |
