Weird APM troubles

So this is the situation:
I have compiled APM support in my kernel, (I can paste the relevant parts of my .config if you think it'll help).
However, if I issue 'apm' I get this:
No APM support in kernel
I have no idea why it does this.
I tried disabling ACPI aswell to see if it's having some conflicts with that, but alas no luck so far.
Anyone have an idea why this is happening?
I'm running 2.6.3_rc-love2.

what shows up in dmesg regarding apm? Is there any reason you need to use APM instead of ACPI?

I'm not at home right now, but if I recall correctly, nothing shows up about APM in my dmesg.
I'm not sure if my motherboard is capable of using ACPI.

Hmm. If you don't have ACPI support you don't have it. My PII Server definitely doesn't have it either. How about posting the relevant parts of your kernel config.

There's no such file. And thu sapparently there haven't been compile din support for APM..
I did an simple genkernel --config and set up things like they should be, edited my bootloader and rebooted. I've been having theese issues for some time with various 2.6.x kernels, I can't remember after what switch it happened..
Perhaps i ought to try and compile apm as a module and see if it loads that way?
That's something for me to do tomorrow, I'm going to bed now.

Actually I just remembered, I think i accidently left out APM once, and after that it havent been working even though I compiled it back in..

trying it as a module might help. Just make sure to mount /boot and copy everything over when you compile your kernel to make sure you are using the new one.
