Hi, I would like to start with saying that I am new to both linux in general and gentoo. Now on to my questions.
I used the example filesystems when installing gentoo:
# mke2fs /dev/hda1 (boot)
# mkswap /dev/hda2
# mkreiserfs /dev/hda3 (root)
now, when editing fstab, is this the correct way for my config ?
/dev/hda1 /boot ext2 noauto,noatime 1 2
/dev/hda3 / reiserfs noatime 0 1
/dev/hda2 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro,user 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
next question is, when installling the kernel I get the error
cdrom root: -bash emerge command not found
linux cant find the emerge command used for installing the kernel.
Hope I have'nt made a complete fool of myself by asking these questions |

For your /etc/fstab, this looks good.
For your emerge problem, it seems to me that you didn't chroot into your installation... Is that the case? If you use another console than the first one, you need also to chroot in this console.
With theses few informations, hard to help more _________________ Foo. |

Have you allready "chroot"ed over to your newly installed system as it is mentioned in the install-guide? _________________ managing a server running gentoo... |

Your fstab looks fine. As the others have said you need to chroot to use emerge (or possibly you didn't expand the stage tarball). At least that is easy to fix! _________________ Kent
