|
|
Just finished installing gentoo amd64 with the 2.6.2 kerel. During the liveCD, lsmod reported that its using the forcedeth module to get my ethernet running, so naturally when configuring my kernel (gentoo-dev-sources) I enabled the forcedeth as a module for my nforce3 nic. I configured /etc/config.d/net for dhcp, added net.eth0 in the default run level, and added forcedeth to my modules/autoload.d/kernel-2.6 file.. Now at bootup, it reports loading the forcedeth module, but then when it gets to brining up eth0, it fails. So I login and run lsmod again, and it reports forcedeth as being loaded, but not in use. I tried a simple modprobe forcedeth /etc/init.d/net.eth0 start but no luck. I do notice though that when I compiled nforce3 driver support into my kernel it takes a lot longer to "bring up eth0" than it did before (no idea what this means). So I'm out of ideas, any help would be appreciated. |

Same problem, plain Athlon though. Forcedeth is loaded, but network is not working. I'm glad I compiled a module for the card in my other computer, but I really need it there as well...
Using kernel 2.6.2, forcedeth as a module. I have an abit nf7-s motherboard. With kernel 2.4 and nvidas binary driver I used before, everything worked well. |

Problem Solved. The interface was not turned on in bios...
How Strange.
But by reading some other posts I found out that if you have two network cards (like an asus blabla deluxe for example), you can't have them both using dhcp, which is how I configured it when putting in the other card.
Best regards, Johan |

Mine is turned on in the BIOs, i don't know why the LiveCD forcedeth would work, but not on gentoo-dev-sources... |
