I just gleefully compiled gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.9, as I've been really unhappy with 2.6.8.1 (very slow, disk access sucks), and it doesn't work. Oddly, uname reports "2.6.9-gentoon", which seems....strange. That also messed up my /lib/modules, as I have both /usr/lib/2.6.9-gentoo and /usr/lib/2.6.9-gentoon. For this reason, I think, the nvidia driver won't load, so I can't even use 2.6.9. What the the heck is going on here? I can attach my .config if necessary, but it's the same one I've been using for a couple kernel revisions, just using 'make oldconfig' when upgrading.

Looks like the devs made a little boo-boo. It will probably be fixed in r1.

This is the first prompt I get when I run "make oldconfig".

Code:
*
* General setup
*
Local version - append to kernel release (LOCALVERSION) [] (NEW)

You probably hit the 'n' key to say no, but really told it to append an 'n'.

Ah ha! I bet that's it...I'll recompile and see if that fixes all, thanks-

EDIT: Well, that kind of worked, although I promptly ran into the __VMALLOC_RESERVE bug. Bah. I'll start another thread about that, though.
