I have no problems at all with flash and firefox.
To install flash player plugin, I did the following :
downloaded the tar.gz on the macromedia site (you have a link displayed on screen if you haven't the plugin installed yet).
untar it and run the installer. Then you have a choice between mozilla installation and netscape installation. If you choose mozilla installation, you will have a flash plugin file in your ~/.mozilla/plugins folder.
Copy this file in the firefox configuration folder (it must be ~/.phoenix/plugins if I recall correctly).
Then launch firefox again. it should work.
These explanations are approximative because I'm not at my box right now, so i can't check the exact procedure and folders names, but you have the general idea.
Hope this helps. |

you could just type
emerge netscape-flash
for next time. My problem was flash was very slow. Last time I had over 10 tabs open and firefox was open for several hours. After closing and having no tabs it worked fine.
thanks |

I think it has to do with firefox, because when I start konqueror with the netscape-flash-plugin, it works fine, but firefox is too slow...
and firebird worked fine before... _________________ All this pain is an illusion! |

I've noticed some out of sync issues. But it's random. For the most part, flash plug-in for my firefox install works pretty good. |

Go download flashfix
http://wintrmute.net/software/
Extract and the type make in the directory it was extracted to.
Copy flashfix to the plugins directory (/usr/lib/MozillaFirefox/plugins)
cd /usr/lib/MozillaFirefox/plugins
./flashfix
I had to do this to get flash to work correctly on one machine.
Quote: | If Flash Player does not work, make sure you have a compatible version of libstdc++ present (libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3). On RedHat based systems, install the package "compat-libstdc++" (Package "compat" on SuSE). Alternatively, you can try using Flashfix. |

Even with flashfix, flash games etc. lag like hell! And that really pisses me off!
What kind of a god damn bug is it? Mozilla-side or Macromedia-side? Either way, Flash is so widely-spread over the web, so it's in the best interests in the developers themselves to make it work! In Windows I experiance no lag. In Linux, it's like i've landed behind a 286 when I try to use flash. |
