I don't understand what i have to do.
i tried modprobe nvnet, but it doesn't exist.

That means that it doesn't have support for your network card on the live CD (you will not need it for installation if you are using the CD) Since you obviously have access to a PC with internet access, go grab the installation guide and follow it (You'll see how to get nvnet up and running! ) NVNet is something you install later in the installation process, so just follow the guide and take your time. |

afaik the 2.6 kernel version of the LiveCD will not detect / install the nvNet driver. That would be a good thing for someone to add is the forcedeth version (OSS hack of nvNet).
The 2.4 kernel version will detect and load the nvNet driver, switching horses after the boot should be do-able if you swap CDs and can use the 2.6 sources. I condirered trying it but ended up going with a known quantity, that being the 2.4 version.
The installation guide should get you through a stage 3 install, you just unzip the stage 3 tarball from what I remember. Print the install guide from the CD if you don't have a second machine available. It's a decent format for printing, at least the 2.4 version was.
Good Luck!
<edit> True, the tarballs etc should be on the CD so you would install the portage snapshot etc from the cd. During compiling the kernel near the end of it, you will able to add either forcedeth or the nvnet driver and update everything. </edit> _________________ Proud GNU/Linux user 158149

If you're installing off the CD you can completely finish (as long as you don't emerge sync). I had internet access and I didnt' use it at all for my installation. I only needed it so I could get the most up-to-date KDE and such, but that happens after you reach the END of the installation guide. You'll be fine, just don't emerge sync. |

don't you have to download your sources before compilation? _________________ "As you think, so you are." |

If you're using the LiveCD they are on the CD. |
