I also got that message back as XDM started much sooner than expected (I set RC_PARALLEL_STARTUP to true). The error message appeared while X was initializing the graphics console. I think X might interact with splashutils some way. But it's really harmless. _________________ Gentoo addict: tomorrow I quit, I promise!... Just one more emerge...

well my problem remains. using unicode_start even spits this error without bootsplash activated. i've got my unicode_start in /etc/conf.d/local.start, so it's been started last and X is already up by then, which leads to a completely new errornous behaviour: my keystrokes are repeated indefinitly until i switch to another console an back. then this behavoir is gone. i've thrown away unicode_start as of now and everything seems to behave normally. i'm not even sure what unicode_start is supposed to do anyways. _________________ If you fall off a cliff, you might as well try to fly. Hmm - reading the Gentoo UTF-8 Guide I can't find anything about "unicode_start" ... I remember to read about it in the Wiki Howto but I'd stay with the official guide which does not even mention "unicode_start" ...

This problem still occures in my case, either I start /etc/init.d/consolefont or keymaps I get
Code: | putfont: PIO_FONT: Invalid argument |
What is worse is that I have keyboard all messed up in clean terminal - some doesn't react at all, some type different signs than they should - it's impossible to even log into the system without X (in which it seems to work fine)
Edit: Nevermind. The problem of keyboard was caused by numlock service starting with the system, and 'Invalid argument' error disappeared long time ago under unknown circumstances... |
