[xfree] no screen since upgrade to 2.6.3 [solved]

I get a black screen under X on my IBM T22 laptop since I upgraded to 2.6.3 (mm-sources). I can still switch to VTs. It was working fine on previous 2.6.x.
In the XFree log, I see several occurences of this:

Did you recently switch to a newer version of XFree? I also have problems with X and try to find possible reasons.

Either upgrade to 2.6.3-mm2 or download this patch
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/akpm/patches/2.6/2.6.3/2.6.3-mm2/broken-out/add-syscalls_h-shmat-fix.patch
and run following command in your kernel dir and recompile etc.
