Hello,
I don't have sound working yet.
Code: | bash-2.05b$ grep audio /proc/pci
Multimedia audio controller: Aureal Semiconductor Vortex 2 (rev 254). |
I think my chipset is Aureal AU8830, but I'm not sure.
I've looked through http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml but I think things are faily different now with 2.6.
There is a list of devices under "Device Drivers ---> Sound ---> Advanced Linux Sound Architecture ---> PCI devices --->" but mine is not there. What should I do?
Thanks,
John |

according to
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/index.php3?vendor=vendor-Aureal#matrix
your chipset is supported ... you're probably going to have to compile the module yourself try the instructions on alsa's site ... you will need the alsa utils and to start alsasound in your defaul runlevel just like the instructions say, but there are a load of alsa drivers built into the kernel in 2.6 ... so you don't need to reemerge alsa when you recompile your kernel |

I am in the same situation !
My solution : I apply the patch
http://imptech.dhs.org/~imptech/au88x0-2.6.0.diff.gz
to the kernel linux-2.6.2-rc2.
This solution doesn't work with the last kernel (2.6.3) : compile error in sound/pci/au88x0/au8830_mixer.c |
