Per another post, I now have my Gentoo box up and running with a Realtek-based NIC and it works like a charm. But there is one niggling little problem. Of the two Realtek drivers in the modules directory, I accidentally specified the wrong one first. I corrected it and ran rc-update, but on boot up, it still calls the other driver as well. Naturally it fails after several attempts because the card ain't there. But it does start the correct driver and starts net.eth0 perfectly.

The question is, how the hell do I rid my config file of the wrong driver? The reason this is important is that when I go to install a wireless NIC, I fear I'll have the same problem, only then it might be looking for two drivers for cards that aren't there.

Thanks in advance.
