What do you do when your machine crashes unpredictably? I have used this dual AMD CPU machine for about 1 year now. It several times per week. It can be made to crash by doing long file transfers. But it crashes sporadically during an X window session. By crash I mean the machine locks up.

Thinking it might be the power supply I replaced it with an Altec true430 without improvement.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

- check for bad memory with memtest.
- do bios update.
- unplug and plug back all the cards inside the computer.
- take all the memory out and just leave one memory stick inside the computer. if that works, then add one more and run it again for serval days. if that work, add one more until you have all of them inside the computer and the computer worked without any problem.
- look if the computer has an cooling problem.

cheers

1) Updated BIOS.
2) Reseated cards.
3) Tested each memory card.
4) No evidence of any heat-related problems.

All this and the crashes continued. Gave up and decided I had to live with the problem. Then I upgraded to KDE 3.2 and the crashes stopped. Not one since and there would have been dozens of crashes by now, gauranteed. Not sure what to make of this but I'm pleased.
