Hi.... I have tried to get GDM working for a while now and i finally did it.... however i had to take out acceleration COMPLETELY from my xfree. NOw its really eally anno ying to do things cause its really slow... but every time i enable acceleration... GDM freezes as does StartX. It doesnt even boot.. i just get a black screen. Is there some way to put acceleration back on w/o taking out no acceleration. I emerged ati-drivers and used the fglrx drivers. Is there any other drivers out there for the 9800 that i can use?? or is there a way to fix this... ThankS!

There are no other drivers that support 3D acceleration for the 9800. Have you configured the AGP options in your kernel correctly for your motherboard? If you have "UseInternalAGPGART" set to "yes" in your XF86Config, try setting it to "no", or the other way round. Make sure you have the kernel agpgart module loaded, along with the fglrx module.

I tried loading the agpgart module along with the fglrx module.... no luck... the kernel is set right... with agpgart being a module and such and not built into it. Its just that whenever i take noaccel off in the fglrxconfig file... gdm crashes... but with it... gdm works but really shitty. ANy other ideas?

Post your XFree log from one of the times it crashed (/var/log/XFree86.0.log).

I am able to get into X with the no accel option off... just not GDM for some reason..

Well I can't really help with GDM. Hopefully someone who uses Gnome can suggest something.

That's a very weird looking log. It seems to have some bits missing, and all those unresolved symbols probably indicate that something isn't right. Can you post the XF86Config file that you're using, along with the output of "dmesg"? It might also be worth remerging X to see if that helps.
