gaim .75 r8 does not connect to msn

I posted this question on this thread also https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=133600 but since that topic has "solved" in the title, I thought I'd start a new topic as the solution there does not work for me.

I emerged the latest version of gaim, but when I try to connect to msn it never succeeds. In the debug messages it says:

MSN is NOT friendly to the third-party IM clients that try to use their protocol, and are regularly doing things to block access. This has happened to me with Gaim on 3 different releases. That being said, I'm not at all surprised.

All I have to offer, is to tell you to wait until they (the Gaim developers) figure out the protocol again.

You have NSPR/NSS installed?

Sorry for the silence, I didn't think anyone would answer this after being so many posts about gaim... Well, I can connect from University aswell (gaim 0.75, built there) but I cannot do it from my home computer.

I unmerged NSPR and NSS as someone on another thread suggested they are not needed if you have mozilla. Didn't change anything.

Today I checked out the cvs sources and built them. Funny, yahoo works now, but MSN gives me the same error. :roll:

Just an FYI that if you've unmerged NSS and NSPR, you'll want to rebuild gaim.

Another FYI that the "ssl" USE flag is only for gaim-encryption. SSL support for MSN is always assumed. Now that I think about it, "crypt" would probably make sense for gaim-encryption than ssl. Especially since gaim-encryption really doesn't do SSL, it just encrypts a message and sends it over the net.

Perhaps I'll change it someday.

Are you still having problems connecting to MSN? It has been off and on for me over the past few weeks and a few days ago it shut down and I can't log on at all. I have tried several clients and none seems to work. Anybody else having these issues? I'd like to know before I go blaming it on the portblock circus that is going on around here. How's all of your MSN's working???

yeah, I can connect with all sorts of other clients, including aMSN, kopete and Microsoft's client, on Windows. Even gaim works at work, but not on my gentoo installation.
