You may want to consider reading up on the ebuild syntax and writing the ebuild. If you post it on bugs.gentoo.org, it may end up in the portage tree. As for the project itself, it seems kinda intersting. What kind of advantages does this have over an ldap or nis?

I may be wrong, but I don't think OPIE is similar to nis/ldap at all, and has more in common with s/key. It's a method for generating one-time passwords, which are typically for use when logging in from an insecure terminal.

Oh, and if you have "skey" in your use when you build openssh, and set it up for PAM authentication, you'll be able to take OTP logins via ssh. I won't say any more here, because there's already a nice howto on the forums.

Ok, I was looking around the documentatino and it sounded like a single password solution, but that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

There's a big difference between single sign-on and one-time passwords. :)
