I was not able to compile /usr/portage/app-crypt/pam_krb5/pam_krb5-1.0.ebuild on our Dual opteron machine that runs gentoo. This machine is part of our network and so it needed the pam modules to authenticate against kerberos since we have recently disabled all our NIS passwords.
I created an e-build out of the latest pam_krb5 release candidate from sourceforge.net. Please note that I am no gentoo expert, and this is my first ebuild , but if you need pam kerberos support and want to give my ebuild a try simply get it here:
http://www.math.gatech.edu/~dijuremo/downloads/pam_krb5.ebuild.tar.bz2
The contents of this file are:
app-crypt/
app-crypt/pam_krb5/
app-crypt/pam_krb5/files/
app-crypt/pam_krb5/files/digest-pam_krb5-1.3_rc7
app-crypt/pam_krb5/Manifest
app-crypt/pam_krb5/pam_krb5-1.3_rc7.ebuild
app-crypt/pam_krb5/ChangeLog
So you just need to uncompressed it into your ${PORTDIR_OVERLAY} directory and then emerge it from there.
Maybe someone more experienced can check the ebuild and put it in the gentoo release.

Nevermind....
There is already a bug report on this and one alternative ebuild for pam_krb5-1.3-rc7 at:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28810
