Somewhere, sometime I changed some settings!

Now when viewing code or quotes on the forum the fonts are tiny, zooming in works but all the other fonts look way too large, also the code or quoted font then appears italicsed.

Despite using Settings->Configure Konqueror I am unable to restore to a suitable settings.

In Konqueror's "Settings" menu, you can choose to "Configure Konqueror". In the Konqueror configuration window you can configure which fonts are used for what. It's quitte possible that your "mistake" has been made in there.

Under "Appearance & Themes" in the KDE Control Center, there's a "Fonts" module. It might be so that you messed up your fixed width font setting there. (I'm just taking wild guesses as you might have noticed )

I think this is something fontconfig does to courier. I think you can get around this by changing some settings there. Or was it in Qt... damn, too long ago... search the forums for "courier small" or something like that, I'm sure something will turn up.

I think this question's been answered maybe 50 times in the last 3 months.

Open the KDE Control Center, select System Administration, then Font Installer. Hit the Administrator Mode button at the bottom and supply your root password. You may have a bit of a wait as KDE says it's "Configuring out of date font folder". Once it's done, right click on the 75dpi and 100dpi font folders listed and choose "Disable". Log out and log back in again and you should now be able to see your code snippets just fine again. You may have to do this again if you just installed X. If you have already disabled the 75dpi and 100dpi folders before installing X, you may get an error saying .75dpi and .100dpi folders already exist. Just delete them and disable the new ones and you should be fine.

Thanks for the tip.

I did that, but now my fonts in the GIMP are changed. I suppose it can't find the fonts it was using before and is having to use something else.

There must be a way to edit fontconfig so that KDE uses the Freetype fonts in preference to the bitmapped fonts, but applications that specifically request a bitmapped font still get what they need.
